Disney has revealed the first look at 'Mary Poppins Returns', (and I am super excited!) the sequel to the popular 1964 musical classic that starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. Based on the Mary Poppins stories by P.L. Travers, Mary Poppins Returns comes from a screenplay by Life of Pi scribe David Magee and Into the Woods director Rob Marshall in charge.
Set in the 1930s depression-era London, the story finds children Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) all grown up. Michael suffers a personal loss, with Emily Blunt taking on the iconic role of Mary Poppins – returning with optimistic street lamplighter named Jack, played by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton creator, to keep magic in the air.
The cast also includes Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Dick Van Dyke.

Emily is that you?
I know its the only image at the moment, but I'm feeling the Poppins vibes from this one. Plus it looks like three-time Oscar winner costume designer Sandy Powell is about to blow our minds with her fabulous eye, Jacket is spot on right? Powell recently outdid herself with Disney's live-action Cinderella, Mary Poppins will give her another chance to go all out with period fashion.
Staying on the creative side of things, we also have on board Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman (hairspray) writing all the new songs for Mary Poppins returns, Shaiman will also be composing the original score. Marshall also recruited cinematographer Dion Babe (Into the Woods) who has worked with Marshall to date on all his musicals and Oscar winning production designer John Myhre (Dreamgirls)

"Mary Poppins Returns” is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).
